Pete Darrell Simmons

Mr. Pete Darrell Simmons, 75, of 3333 Hillcrest Drive, Claremont, passed away Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. He was born October 20, 1933, in Surry County, to the late Charlie and Elizabeth McDaniel Simmons. He retired from Collins and Aikman, was a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating. He was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Poore Simmons of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Rick Sebastian of Cincinnati, OH; a son and two daughters-in-law, Phil and Meredith Simmons of Jupiter, FL, and Candice Simmons of Claremont; six grandchildren and a spouse, Justin and Nicole Simmons of Woodstock, GA, Taylor Simmons and Olivia Simmons, both of Claremont, Cody Rowe of Charlotte, Jessica Sebastian and Zach Sebastian, both of Cincinnati, OH; a great-granddaughter, Alexa Simmons of Woodstock, GA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gray and Frances Simmons of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a son, Sean Simmons; and five brothers, Harvey Simmons, Houston Simmons, Reggie Simmons, Curtis Simmons, and Haywood Simmons. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 440 7th Street Place SW, Conover. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM and the service will start at 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 15, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 1:45 PM. Both services will be conducted by Dr. Ed Yount. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. Full Masonic burial rites will be conducted at the graveside by Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM.
