Pfc. Adam Lee Marion

Private First Class Adam Lee Marion, 26, of Mount Airy, died Monday, April 28, 2008, while serving with the United States Army National Guard in Iraq. Adam was born January 19, 1982, in Surry County, to Donnie Lee and Pam McCormick Marion. He graduated from Surry Central High School in 2000. Mr. Marion was a former volunteer and employee of The Children's Center of Surry, Inc. and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Donnie Lee and Pam McCormick Marion of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Adrian and Terry McCann of Mount Airy; a nephew, Connor McCann of Mount Airy; a niece, Marissa McCann of Mount Airy; his grandmothers, Stella Simpson Marion of Mount Airy and Annie Lou McCormick of Dobson; his aunts and uncles, Jimmie and Kay Shores of Haddock, GA, Monroe and Louise Bowman of Mount Airy, J.C. and Diane Davis of East Bend, and Arturo and Maria Hernandez of Yadkinville; and a special friend, Whitney Wood of Thurmond. Adam was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gratsie F. Marion and Bobby McCormick. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 5, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Kermit L. Gray, and burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military honors by the North Carolina National Guard Military Funeral and Honors Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Children's Center of Surry, Inc., P.O. Box 692. Dobson, NC 27017.
