Philip Reed Adkins

Mr. Philip Reed Adkins, 57, of Washington, DC, and Rehobeth Beach, DE, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Adkins retired as Director of Benefits for the law firm of Arnold and Porter of Washington, DC. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is survived by his life partner of 16 years, Richard Meyers; his mother, Louise Winesett Adkins of Lowgap; a sister, Alison Groene and her husband, Donn, of Belmont; a nephew, Robert Farrell and his wife, Liisa, of Raleigh; a niece, Lindsey Burr and her husband, Dr. Jarrett Burr, and their sons, Henry and Ellis Burr, of Davidson; his aunt, Lorna Adkins of Stuart, VA; and numerous cousins. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the Carson-Hodges Family Cemetery in Lowgap. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
