Phillip William Fred Berrier

Cana, Virginia

Mr. Phillip William Fred Berrier, 81, of Cana, VA passed away on Saturday August 24, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his family. Mr. Berrier was born on April 5, 1943, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, the son of the late William Anderson and Zita Leonard Berrier. 

Phillip graduated from Catawba College and Radford University with a Master of Science in History. Phillip was an educator, an elementary school principal (Lambsburg and Mount Bethel), a businessman and a Carroll County School Board member. He loved his community of Lambsburg where he spent most of his life, except during his college years. He served as school principal there and later as chairman of the community center that he helped establish in the old school building. He was an avid sports fan, he loved baseball both as a player and a fan. He loved to watch and cheer for the Yankees. He was also a big fan of North Carolina Tarheels basketball. Most importantly he loved Jesus! He was a member of Lambsburg Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School until he was no longer able due to health issues. He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him especially his family, friends and his community. 

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Joyce Marshall Berrier, his daughter and son-in-law Michelle Allen (Jeff), his step-sons and daughter-in-law, Brian Edwards (Vanessa) and John Edwards. His brother Ralph Berrier and his nephews and spouses, Ralph Berrier, Jr (Ruth), Ricky Berrier (Kerry) and Billy Berrier (Lisa) and several cousins, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles and in-laws. 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Reverend Israel Easter officiating. Interment will follow in the Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Cana, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, August 27, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
