Phillip Martin Draughn, Sr.

Mr. Phillip Martin Draughn, Sr., 78, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mr. Draughn was born October 29, 1942, in Surry County, the son of the late Dallas Draughn, Sr. and Kathleen Coalson Draughn. He retired from W.P. Simmons, Inc. after many years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Thornburg Draughn; two sons, Junior Draughn and Marty Draughn; nine grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Dallas “Junior” and Linda Draughn; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Libby and Mark Hooker; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Bobbie Thornburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was preceded in death by a sister, Treva Ann Barker; and a brother, Donald Draughn. A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Cockerham officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Draughn family.
