Phillip Larry (Joe) Chaney

Phillip Larry (Joe) Chaney, a beloved husband, a devoted papa to Leah and Grace and loving brother, retired probation officer and store owner, passed away on June 11, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born on June 16, 1941, in Surry County, NC, to his parents, Albert Chaney and Irene Jenkins Chaney.

Larry Joe was a special, precious soul who loved the Lord. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was being a loyal member and devoted Sunday school teacher at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where he made many cherished memories with his friends and family. Joe was loved and will be greatly missed by his church family. He had an avid interest in fishing and spent many hours doing so.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Scarlett White Chaney; granddaughters, Leah York and Bobby McCormick; and Grace Harrison; sisters, Frosty White and Andrea Phillips; nephews, Drew and Allison White, Derek Phillips; niece, Marsha and Chuck Ebert; great-nephews, Kendall White, Kasen White and Mason Ebert; special friends, Chris and Cindy Stanley, Roger Thomas and Gary York and four special canine companions, Zuki, Shadow, Banjo and Lucy.

Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by his father, Albert Chaney; mother, Irene Jenkins Chaney; stepchildren, Tabitha Harrison York and Ryan Harrison; sister-in-law, Diane Cooksey; brothers-in-law, Don Phillips and Allen White, and nephew, Jonathan White and special friends, Don Webb and Thomas Stanley.

Visitation will be held at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Dobson on June 15, 2023, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Danny Henley, Rev. James Pardue, and Rev. Dan Buie officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 128 Chaney Lane, Dobson NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Chaney family.
