Mr. Phillip “Phil” Edward Chappell, age 56 of Westfield, passed away on Thursday morning, November 9, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Phil was born in Surry County, November 16, 1966, to the late Edward and Mildred Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a very oriented kind of guy, a very well-known family man, and a very hard worker. Phil was also employed at Salem One Inc. Within the Brown Mountain community Phil was also a well-known farmer by trade. Mr. Chappell is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Chappell of the home; a daughter whom he thought of his own, Victoria Barefoot and significant other Austin Gray; a son that he treated as his own, Austin Barefoot and significant other Mallory Zaino; one aunt; special family friends, John Woodlief and wife Kayla along with their daughter Lily, Patricia "Pat" and Andy Stevenson, farming family Lonnie Edmonds and Andy Simpson. Family will receive friends Sunday November 12, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Graveside services will be held Monday November 13, 2023, at 1 pm at Brown Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tracey Collins officiating. The family wishes to thank everyone for all of the love and prayers during Phil’s sickness, and give a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
