Phillip "Phil" Gray McCreary, Sr.

Mr. Phillip Gray McCreary, Sr., age 73, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning February 14, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  He was born August 5, 1949, in Surry County to the late Edd Lee McCreary, Sr. and Hester Willard McCreary.  He was a retired carpenter, an avid fisherman, and loved NASCAR.  He also loved NFL football, especially the New Orleans Saints.  Left to cherish his memory are his children, Melissa and Pastor Dean Bowman, Phillip Gray McCreary, Jr., Amanda McCreary, and Kenny McCreary; grandchildren, Phillip Danley, Skyler Collins, Brianna McCreary, Kendra and Austin Jenkins, Natalie Danley, Evan McCreary, Nathan and Emma McCreary, Molly McCreary, Lauren McCreary, Destiney McCreary, Asia Hinson, and Cannon Parks; great grandchildren, John Danley, Elizabeth Jenkins, Cole McCreary, Cyrus Owens, and Bannor McCreary; sister, Joann Hodges Banner and husband Reg; his niece and best buddy, Crystal Doss Joyce; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. McCreary was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shasta Wall; sister, Frances Lorraine McCreary Collins; and three brothers, Edd Lee McCreary, Jr., Bobby Jay McCreary, and Kenny Marvin McCreary.  A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 2:00PM at Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Dean Bowman officiating.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for all of the love and care shown to Phil and the rest of the family during his illness.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the McCreary family.
