Phyllis Vernell Coleman

Mrs. Phyllis “Vernell” Coleman, 89, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Patrick County on April 23, 1934, to the late Robert and Irene Smith Hill .  Mrs. Coleman retired from Aunt Bea’s Restaurant after many years of employment.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her.  She is survived by her daughters, Karen Midkiff, Kasonya Coleman; a son, William Darren Coleman; grandchildren, Damon Coleman, Cory Coleman, Jessica Coleman, Michael Coleman, Isaac Midkiff ; great grandchild, Harrison Midkiff; a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Sue Hill; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Duane Coleman; sisters, Lucille Gammons, and Mary Brim; brothers, Larry, Bill, Glen, Charles, and Buck Hill .  A funeral service will be held Hills Grove Baptist Church in Claudville at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 30, 2023, with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00pm  at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
