Polly Ann Atkins Westmoreland

Mrs. Polly Ann Atkins Westmoreland, 73, of 348 Fireside Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Westmoreland was born August 12, 1937, in Surry County, daughter of the late Harley Jay and Callie Mae Haymore Atkins. She retired from Medical Associates of Surry and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Edward Cunduff "Sonny" Westmoreland of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Johnson of Mount Airy; a son, Mark Westmoreland of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Natalie Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, and Colin Johnson, all of Mount Airy, and Brittany Westmoreland and Zachary Westmoreland, both of King; two great-grandchildren, Brooks and Parker; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Peggy Nichols, Joyce and Arvid Simmons, Barbie Smith, and Ruth and Jerry Dollyhigh, all of Mount Airy, and Lois and Grant Christian and Kay and Tandy Pell, all of Westfield; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Broadus and Ethel Atkins, Gable and Wanda Atkins, and Jerry and Harriett Atkins, all of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Linda Chilton of Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr., the Rev. Kermit L. Gray, and the Rev. Will Eads officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
