Mr. Preston “PT” Thomas, 87 of Mount Airy, NC, passed away at his home, Sunday, October 30, 2022. He was born in Surry County May 15, 1935, to the late Grover Preston and Ettie Mae Whitaker Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a wonderful man, great husband, father, and grandfather. He ran Preston’s Front End Shop forty-five years and was known for his impeccable work and honesty. Mr. Thomas was strong and independent, raising his daughters to be the same. He was an avid golfer, loved to bowl, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Puckett Thomas; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Thomas Martin and Kirk, Dana Thomas Jones and Mark; Debbie Hiatt and Ralph; grandchildren, Peydon Mark Jones, Alston Franklin Jones, Alyson Hiatt, Jarrett Hiatt, and Kade Kiger; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Kyle Johnson, Linda and Carl Tolbert, and Mary and Gary Johnson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walker and Louise Thomas. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by brothers, William, Bobby, and Cleve Thomas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 5, 2022, with Rev. Alex Martin officiating. The family will receive friends to fellowship with food immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Ste 101, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
