Princess Alice Callaway Simmons

Mrs. Princess Alice Callaway Simmons, 89, of Surry Community Nursing Center, 542 Allred Mill Road, Mount Airy, widow of Garnet Simmons, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy. Mrs. Simmons was born January 6, 1917, in Surry County, to the late Garland Everett and Hattie Mae Morrison Callaway. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Simmons retired from the Methodist Children's Home after 16 years of service and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Roy Utt and Mary Leigh and Burney Adams, all of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Glenda Simmons, Michael and Betty G. Simmons, and Frank and Betty M. Simmons, all of Mount Airy; a son-in-law and wife, Leon and Ina Riddle of Lowgap; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Riddle; a great grandson, Cody Allen Simmons; a sister, Harriet Hatcher; a brother, Jimmy Callaway; and her stepmother, Martha Jane Cole Callaway. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Elder Wilbur D. Hiatt, Mr. Lee Boyette and Mr. Randy Riddle. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and nurses aids on B Hall-Lighthouse Lane at Surry Community Nursing Center, the ICU staff at Northern Hospital of Surry County, and to Dr. Nelson Gardner.
