Mrs. Rachel Annie Dollyhite Jessup, 87, of 134 Falcon Lane, Mount Airy, widow of James Monroe "Jim" Jessup, passed away Thursday morning, February 24, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 12, 1923, in Surry County, to the late Jessie Franklin and Margie Hooker Dollyhite. She was an avid Tarhill fan. Mrs. Jessup retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was an active member of Mount Herman United Methodist Church. Surviving are five daughters and two sons, Betty Martin, Judy Jessup, and Jyl (James) Nichols, all of Mount Airy, Pam (Wade) Priddy of Danbury, Pat (Larry) Bohannon of Stuart, VA, Herbert Jessup and Alton (Benita) Jessup, all of Mount Airy; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Pauline Martin and Evelyn Dollyhite, both of Mount Airy; and three sisters-in-law, Ollie Dollyhite of Charlotte, Rena Stewart of Westfield, and Margie Jessup of Mount Airy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jessup was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Frankie Jessup; a son-in-law, Lamer Dean Martin; a granddaughter, Melissa Page Jessup; and a brother, Joe Bill Dollyhite. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 27, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Mount Herman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harry Sherrill and the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
