Rachel Joyce Milan Martin Steeby

Mrs. Rachel Joyce Milan Martin Steeby, 87, of Dobson, passed away Monday morning, December 20, 2010, at Twelve Oaks in Mount Airy. Born in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hamlin and Betty Jane Venable Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Steeby; three sisters, Hazel Sprinkle, Irene White, and Lora Martin; a brother, Ray Martin; and an infant brother, Spencer Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Fork Christian Church. Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jim Doane of Galax, VA, and Janet and David McCoy of Battle Creek, MI; a step-grandson, Mark Doane; and two step-great-grandsons, Owen Doane and Samuel Doane. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Salem Fork Christian Church, with the Rev. June Haislip and the Rev. Jim Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 untiil 2:00 PM at Salem Fork Christian Church. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Steeby family.
