Mr. Raleigh Bowlen, age 84, of Pilot Mountain, widower of Winona Bullin Bowlen, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at his home. Mr. Bowlen was born in Stokes County, May 29, 1922 to Ollie and Mary Etta Mabe Bullins. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII, receiving three bronze stars as well as the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He served in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, was retired from Armtex and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Barry Nelson of Rural Hall; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Anita N. Bowlen of Siloam; grandchildren, Sherry Hurley and Christopher Darrell Bowlen, Jr. both of Pilot Mountain; Kim McMillian of Mt. Airy; two great grandchildren, Dustin James Hurley and Thomas Lee McCreary. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bowlen was preceded in death by a son, David Oscar Bowlen, a great grandson, Cody Ryan Hurley and five sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 6, 2007 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Don Collins and Chaplain Stewart Roten. Burial will follow in Brown Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
