Mr. Raleigh Reid Hiatt, 73, of Ararat, VA, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018, at his home.  Mr. Hiatt was born January 26, 1945, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Thomas Raleigh and Exie Inscore Hiatt.  He was a man with many talents.  He served as a deputy sheriff and investigator for Patrick County for several years.  He later worked for himself, was a building contractor, and worked in real estate sales.  Mr. Hiatt became a well-known musician throughout the area, playing various instruments, mainly the guitar and mandolin.  He had recently recorded CDs with the Mountain Breeze Band.  He is survived by his wife, Lucy Stout Hiatt; a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Melissa Hiatt; two grandchildren, Raleigh Hiatt and Kyndall Hiatt; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Nester, Ivalene Chaffin, Fay and Jerry Randalls, Wanda Hiatt, and Gloria Payne; and a brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Nellie Hiatt.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Ashley Hiatt; three sisters, Audrey Wright, Gerlene Deal, and Dare Hiatt; and two brothers, Quinton Hiatt and Bernard Hiatt.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Willow Hill Moravian Church, with Greg Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in the church graveyard.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
