Ralph Lewis Slate

Mr. Ralph Lewis Slate age 81 of 2314 McBride Road, Mount Airy, husband of Margaret Sechrist Slate, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Slate was born in Surry County on March 22, 1925 son of the late James Madison Slate and Daisy Cassell Slate. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Sechrist Slate of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jewel and Horace Bondurant of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Connie Slate of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Spires and husband Wil of Winston-Salem, Julie Radford and husband Brad of Claudville, VA and Chip and Patricia Bondurant of Mount Airy and great-grandchildren, Jamie Radford, Christopher Radford and Luke Needham. In addition to his parents Mr. Slate was preceded in death by seven sisters, Virginia Culler, Zella Deatherage, Mamie Harrell, Gladys McBride, Lelia Riddle, Eunice Pell and little Climmi Sue Slate and by three brothers, L.C. Slate, Clyde Slate and Ernest Slate. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Tim Burton with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the donor's choice. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
