Randy Franklin Axsom

Mr. Randy Franklin Axsom, age 61 of Mount Airy, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.  Mr. Axsom was born in Surry County on February 8, 1962, to the late Andy and Betty Imogene Gammons Axsom.  Randy was a volunteer firefighter for thirty years serving in several communities in Surry County.  He also retired from LS Starrett Corporation after many years.  He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who will be missed by all.  Surviving are his daughter and fiancé, Virginia Abigail “Abby” Axsom and Joshua Smith; one grandchild, Mackenzie Smith; one sister, Lisa Axsom Donathan; two nieces, Jessica Donathan, Brandy Odum; seven great-nieces, Mercedes, Gracie Lynn, Baylee, Isabella, Nevaeh, Adrian, Denna; one nephew, Edward; great-nephew, Levi; one aunt, Edith Barber; uncles, Jimmy Gammons, Gilmer Gammons, Leroy Gammons.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Axsom was preceded in death by an aunt, Leona Smith; and an Uncle Bernie Gammons.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Stuart Church of Christ Cemetery in Stuart, Virginia with the Dr. David Sparks officiating.  The family will receive friends on Friday, October 13, 2023, following the service at the CCDF Volunteer Fire Department Building, 2086 Dry Pond Highway, in Stuart Virginia from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
