Ray Bowman

Mr. Ray Bowman, 83, of Dobson, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Bowman was born June 14, 1925, in Carroll County, VA, to Swanson and Nanny Boyd Bowman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Lawrence Bowman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Danny Hughes of Meadows of Dan, VA; a son, Amos Bowman of Meadows of Dan, VA; stepdaughters, Sherry Dreyer and husband, Vince, of Fleming Island, FL, and Sandra Watson of Clemmons; a stepson, Terry Adams and wife, Frankie, of Dobson; grandchildren, Phyllis McGrady and husband, Wesley, Clarence Ray Bowman and wife, Tracy, Ashley Akers and husband, Travis, Neal Bowman, and Nick Bowman; great-grandchildren, Jason Culler, Brian Culler, Jessica Bowman, Bridgette Bowman, and Ben Bowman; stepgrandson, T.W. Adams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Junior Bowman of Hillsville, VA, Barbara Hawks of Mount Airy, Icie and John Turner of Galax, VA, Vicie and Junior Smith of Hillsville, VA, and Richard Martin of Rural Retreat, VA; and a brother and sisters-in-law, Ivan and Laura Bowman of Hillsville, VA, Jocie Bowman of Winston-Salem, Lillian Bowman and Louise Bowman, both of Hillsville, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ray Sutphin; a son, Gary Bowman, Sr.; a sister, Iva Martin; and brothers, Rush, Bernard, Jesse Thornton, Wayne, and Relve Bowman. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Alton Bledsoe. Burial will follow in the Bowman Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.
