Ray Chalmer Dawson

Mr. Ray Chalmer Dawson age 82 of Cana, VA passed away at his home Sunday, March 4, 2007. Mr. Dawson was born in Surry County April 16, 1924 to the late Oscar and Bertie Johnson Dawson. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy; a retired electrician from Inman Electric an avid hunter and a member of Epworth Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Barry Iroler; a son Ray Dawson, Jr. all of Fancy Gap, VA; grandchildren and spouses, Christy Dawson of Wrightsville Beach, NC, Olivia and Payton Vaught of Cana, VA, Amanda and Zac Lineberry, Fancy Gap, VA, Barrett Iroler and Clay Iroler both of Fancy Gap, VA; great grandchildren, Brady Vaught and Payton Vaught, Jr. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dawson was preceded in death by his wife Polly McCraw Dawson; two sisters, Irene Williams, Betty Dawson and one brother, Harley Dawson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Epworth Methodist Church by Rev. Dennis "Bud" Cameron. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt Airy, NC where his body will remain until time to leave for the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
