Mr. Ray Lee Hawks, 68, of 8792 West Pine Street, Lowgap, husband of Maxine Goodson Hawks passed away Sunday morning, May 25, 2008 at his home. He was born March 3, 1940 in Surry County to the late Robert McCoy and Gladys Wood Hawks. He retired from the postal service and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are his wife, Maxine Goodson Hawks of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Greg Casstevens; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Brandon Casstevens all of Mt. Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Virgil Ramey of Lowgap; two brothers and a sister-in-law, R.P. "Junior" Hawks and Bobby and Stella Hawks all of Mt. Airy; special friends, Woody, Carolyn, Jason and Brenda Edwards. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Roaring Gap Baptist Church conducted by Elder Arwood Edwards and Rev. Joe Atkins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, post 2019 of Mt. Airy and post 9436 of Pilot Mtn. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday May 27, 2008 from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and especially to Delores Johnson and Gail McCrary. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy is assisting the Hawks family.
