Ray McKinley Haymore

Mr. Ray McKinley Haymore, 80, of 302 Fish River Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at his home. Mr. Haymore was born July 23, 1927, in Surry County, to the late Rufus and Cora Ellen Isaacs Haymore. Ray served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a machine fixer from Sara Lee Corporation and was a member of Blues Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mitchell Freeman of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Candice Freeman of Pilot Mountain; a grandson, Michael Freeman of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Rosie Ann Haymore of Ararat, VA, and Joe and Carol Haymore of Savannah, GA; two brothers-in-law and a spouse, Jay Atkins and Ed and April Atkins, all of Mount Airy; and a special friend and neighbor, Wayne Haymore of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haymore was preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray Haymore; a brother, James Haymore; two half-sisters, Nannie Riggs and Gracie Doment; a half-brother, Lloyd Haymore; and special friends, Ellis W. Haymore and Warren Payne. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 20, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Roland McCraw and Brother Mark Freeman, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Ray's many friends and neighbors for their acts of kindness and love in caring for him.
