Ray Eugene Key, age 90, passed away Monday, November 29th, 2021, at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Being the last of four children born to John Samuel and Maude Creed Key on February 17, 1931, he was adored by his three sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lorene Venable Key; one daughter, Amy Key Younts and husband Clint of Buda, TX; one son, Brian Key and wife Shelia of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Ashley Younts Richey (Chris), Katie Younts Hagemann (Michael), Sarah Key Buffaloe (Justin) and Jacob Key; three great grandchildren, Aidan and Haley Richey and Aubree Hagemann; one niece, Phyllis Scott Rose; and nephew, Gary Pruett; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mrs. Irene Scott, Mrs. Jessie Wagoner and Mrs. Blanche Pruett. Ray was a devoted and faithful member of Grace Moravian Church, the John Walker Sunday School Class and The Brotherhood, and will be missed by all the members he leaves behind. He was also facilitator of the Margaret Leonard Scholarship Fund started by the John Walker Sunday School Class. After graduating from White Plains High School, Ray joined the United States Army serving from 1951-1954. After an honorable discharge, he graduated from Draughon's Business College and was employed by General Motors for 36 years. The family would like to thank the staff and all the help at Ridgecrest Assisted Living, Central Continuing Care, and Woltz Hospice Home for their love and compassion during the last 2 ½ years. They also want to thank Lorene`s sisters and brothers-in-law Katie and Wayne Draughn, Jean and Joe Napier, and Linda and Moir Chilton for their love and help during this difficult time. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 pm at Grace Moravian God’s Acre with Rev. Dr. Neil Routh officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Moravian Church, 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, The Margaret Leonard Scholarship Fund, c/o Grace Moravian Church and The Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017. Military Honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019.
