Ray Edward Oney

Mr. Ray Edward Oney, 61, of 1211 George Chandler Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, in Benton, IL. Mr. Oney was born November 5, 1948, in Greenbrier County, WV, to the late Mary Oney. Ray was an iron worker/mine foreman with Coalfield Services, Inc. in Wytheville, VA. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Remona Cales Oney of the home; two daughters, Tina VanHoy and her husband, Barry, of Mount Airy and Crystal Oney White and her husband, Randy, of Elkin; two stepsons, John David Harmon and his wife, Diane, of Madison, OH, and Jerry Wayne Harmon (Lois Slone) of Dobson; seven grandchildren, Alisha Harmon, Stephanie Harmon, Garrett VanHoy, Carley VanHoy, Ashley Harmon, Emma White, and Cassie White; a great-granddaughter, Arianna Liberatore; and a brother, Lacey Oney and his wife, Ethel, of Clintonville, WV. In addition to his mother, Mr. Oney was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Oney and Bernard Oney. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tim Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
