Mr. Ray Junior White, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2020 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his loving family. Mr. White was born in Surry County on October 17, 1931 to the late Ernest Sanders “Slim” White and Orpha Pearl “Pug” Quesinberry White. Ray was a well-known tobacconist, a charter member of the Elks Lodge, and was the owner of the first KFC franchise in Mount Airy. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Donnie Dickerson, and Lou Anne and Todd Smith; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry White, and Tony and Susan White; 6 grandchildren, Summer and Brad Currin, Shep and Jordon Brannock, Brandon and Heather White, Christa White, Stephanie and Glenn Woods, and Staci and Toby Hiatt; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Joe Bill Branch; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank “Shine” and Barbara White; and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. White was preceded in death by two brothers, Richel O’Neal White, and Billy Jack “ Cotton” White. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens with entombment to follow in the mausoleum. Services will be conducted by Rev. Richard Loman. Mr. White will lie-in-state at the funeral home on Saturday morning until time to leave for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
