Raymond "Howard" Childress

Mr. Raymond Howard Childress, 64, devoted husband of Doris Gillespie Childress, of Dobson, passed away at his home on Friday March 2, 2007 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on May 31, 1942 to the late Matt and Fannie Johnson Childress. Mr. Childress was a Veteran of the US Army having served our country during the Vietnam War and operated C & L Transmission. Survivors include his loving, devoted wife of 44 years, Doris Gillespie of the home; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Burniece and Tim Byers, Ann and A. E. Hamby, Maude and Lawrence Johnson and Mary Lou Childress all of North Wilkesboro, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Childress was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Childress and six brothers, Robert, Ed, Richard, James, Junior and Bill Childress. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday March 5, 2007 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Home with Rev. Mike Childress and Brother Roger Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Sunday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
