Mr. Raymond Fountin Jones, 83, of Cana, VA, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Jones was born June 4, 1927, in Carroll County, VA. He was the owner and operator of Ray's Produce in Cana, VA, for over 30 years. He served as a Sea Bee in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Collene Venable Jones of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Donna Jones of Cana, VA; two grandsons, Joseph Jones and Junior Utt; five granddaughters, Debbie Byrd and her husband, Jerry, Holly Jones, Ann Martin, Nicole Jones, and Maranda Williams; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lona Bryan of Virginia, Mazie Sanford of Mississippi, and Jean Cudmore of Maryland. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" Cahall; a son, James Ray "Jimmie" Jones; a grandchild, Lisa Utt; his mother, Lillie McCraw Jones Bradburn; and his stepfather, Brad Bradburn. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 3, 2011, at 11:00 AM at New Beginnings Community Church in Lambsburg, VA, with the Rev. Wes Mosteller and the Rev. Gary Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones-Fleming Family Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 123 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
