Mr. Raymond Lewis Joyce, Jr., 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Joyce was born November 11, 1942, in Surry County, the only child born to the late Raymond Lewis Joyce, Sr. and Edith Dowell Joyce. After attending Wake Forest College for two years, Raymond entered the United States Army, serving the 15th EVAC Hospital in Pirmases, Germany, from 1963 until 1966. He then transferred to serving in the Army Reserves and later the Army Ready Reserves until his discharge in 1984. Raymond retired as a hospital administrator from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, and attended Central United Methodist Church. He is survived by his partner, Jane LaPrade; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer and Scott Johnson and Leslie Joyce; a son, Raymond Daniel Joyce; five grandchildren, Arien, Kimberly, Hunter, Taylor, and Mia; and a great-grandchild, Mason. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 4:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Muckler officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM in the Ladies’ Parlor at Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds, III and Marie M. Reynolds Campus, 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
