Raymond Wilmer Riddle, Sr

Mr. Raymond Wilmer Riddle, Sr., 90, of Mount Airy, passed away early Monday morning, May 29, 2017, at his home. Mr. Riddle was born September 1, 1926, in Forsyth County, the son of the late Cordie Powell “C.P.” and Anna Caudle Riddle. Raymond served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a construction superintendent for many years throughout North Carolina. Mr. Riddle was a member and officer of Holly Springs Ruritan Club and a lifetime member of VFW Post 5352 in Kernersville. He attended Toms Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Simmons Riddle of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Anna Riddle Rose of Archdale and Denise Riddle Cox and Pasquale DiBari of Cary; a son, Raymond Wilmer Riddle, Jr. of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Martin and Samantha Cox of Angier, Travis Cox of Cary, Brian Rose of Archdale, and Adam and Amy Rose of Apex; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles Melvin and Merle Riddle of Greensboro. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riddle was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Richard Lynn Rose and Charlie F. Cox; his stepmother, Mattie Fruitt Riddle; and two brothers, Marshall Riddle and Richard Riddle. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Elder Jimmy Joyce officiating. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
