Rebecca Dockery

Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Doub Dockery left this earthly life very early Thursday morning, February 4, 2021.  She left to be embraced by the eternal love of heaven, and passed into the arms of the ones she loved so dear who had gone on before, including her beloved husband, Kenny, who had died in 2018.

Becky Dockery was born December 17, 1933, in Forsyth County, to Herman Theodore and Maggie Poindexter Doub.  She grew up in the rural farming community of Old Richmond on Doub’s Chapel Road.  She had an older brother, James, and a sister, JoAnn, who also went on before her.  She loved and prayed for her many nieces and nephews on both the Doub and Dockery sides, and had a never-ending love and belief in her family.

Becky graduated from Old Richmond High School in 1951 and married Daniel M. “Kenny” Dockery on January 31, 1952.  They shared 66 years together and treasured each other in such a rare and endearing way that it inspires us still.  Becky retired from Forsyth Memorial Hospital as an OR nurse, where she won many awards for her proficiency and excellence; and Kenny retired from Roadway Express.  They have two children, Dr. Patricia Dockery Weavil (Ricky) and Daniel M. Dockery, Jr. (Ginger).  They have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, including Rebecca Dockery Weavil Thompson (Jeff) and their son, Liam Ricky Thompson, Daniel M. Dockery, III (Audra) and their son Dean Lee Dockery, Robert Lee Dockery, and Salem Virginia Dockery.  And yes, all of Becky’s children and grandchildren graduated from college, she made sure of it, and she was proud of that accomplishment.

Becky was proud of her support and love of Doub’s United Methodist Church, and her voice will now sing her beloved hymns in a different choir.  Becky also loved her garden and her flowers.  She was one of those people who, in a magical way, could touch anything and it would blossom and grow.  It was not only true with her gardens, but it was also true of her friends and family.  Everyone she touched was better off as a result of her willful and strong loving nature.  Her legacy will be known simply as one of support and nurture, comfort and care, and a belief that we can all “do for” each another, if we just love one another.  My goodness, but she will be missed.

Becky will be laid to rest in a private family burial at the Dockery Cemetery on Twin Oaks Road in Elkin’s Union Cross community.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Becky’s memory to the care and upkeep of the Dockery Cemetery.  Those donations can be made by check to Amy Dockery and tagged Dockery Cemetery Fund.  Her mailing address is 206 Dobbins Mill Road, Elkin, NC  28621.
