Mr. Reginald Harkness "Tom" Schwab, 82, of 219 Fairview Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, at his home. Mr. Schwab was born December 30, 1926, in Marion, PA, to the late Samuel S. and Irene Harkness Schwab. Schwab served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. After he was discharged from the navy, he began a career at WPAQ in radio broadcasting, which was a passion of his for many years. In his latter years, he worked at WSJS radio station in Winston-Salem for 15 years. He was the former owner and operator of Schwab Realty and Schwab Insurance Company. Tom was past president of the Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce, Mount Airy Rotary Club, and Mount Airy Elks Lodge. Mr. Schwab was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Booker Schwab of the home; a son, Robert L. "Bobby" Schwab of Hampstead; three stepdaughters, Betty Ann "B" Daniels of Winston-Salem, Tania Tayloe and fiance, Richard Broad, of Wilmington, and Torie Porter and husband, Howard, of Virginia Beach, VA; a stepson and his wife, Greg and Lisa Booker of Mount Airy; and five grandchildren, Tyler Schwab, Chris Daniels, Beau Booker, Spencer Tayloe, and Landon Porter. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schwab was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Fulton Schwab; and three brothers, Stewart L. Schwab, Robert L. Schwab, and Donald H. Schwab. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 8, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Ray Hanna officiating. There will not be a formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
