Rena Irene Grimes

Mrs. Rena Irene Smith Grimes, 102, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy.  She was born in Surry County on April 12, 1918 to the late Kenny and Tilda Turney Smith.  Mrs. Grimes was a loving homemaker, and a member of Ivy Green Baptist Church.  She is survived by daughters, Clara Golding, Louvnia Dye, and Peggy Pack sons and daughters-in-law, Cleve and Ethel Grimes; Bruce Grimes, Dwight and Libby Grimes; twenty grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; thirty two great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grimes was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Grimes; a daughter, Eula Martin; a son, Olen Grimes; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, June Grimes; sons-in-law, Clay Golding, and Frank Dye; a sister, Alma Collins.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Cockerham officiating.  There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home.  Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
