Rev. Alvin Ray Parrish

The Rev. Alvin Ray Parrish, 69, of Lowgap, passed away Thursday morning, January 28, 2010, with his loving wife and children by his bedside. He was born in Carroll County, VA, June 1, 1940, to the late William "Bill" Parrish and the late Zora Cockerham Parrish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dwight Alvin Parrish; a grandson, Jason Parrish; and three brothers, Earnest, Elmer, and Grady Parrish. He was a retired maintenance man for Orchard Mountain in Lowgap and was a member of Freedom Gospel Church. Surviving are his loving wife, Irene Dixon Parrish of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Randy and Gina Parrish of Lowgap and Mark and Lisa Parrish of Dobson; three grandchildren, Amanda Goedert, Laura Hodges, and Douglas Parrish; three great-grandchildren, Kolton Quesinberry, Jaxon Hodges, and Conner Parrish; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Harold Akers of Galax VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Wayne and Wanda Parrish of Winston-Salem; a loving friend, Dr. Thomas Vybrial; and a special friend, Ronald Quesinberry. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2010,in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. Burial will follow in the Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Herbert Hensly and the Rev. Ray Hudson will officiate the services. The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour before the services at the funeral home. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the The Rev. Ray Parrish Funeral Fund, c/o Freedom Gospel Church, 1618 Ramey Creek Road, Lowgap, NC 27024.
