Rev. Bill Cook


The Rev. Bill Cook, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, September 1, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Born in Surry County, the Rev. Cook was one of eight children born to the late John Thomas and Nancy Lela Simmons Cook. He was a retired minister and farmer and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. The Rev. Cook was privileged to have served as pastor of several local Missionary Baptist churches. He is survived by his wife, Susie Dell Sawyers Cook of the home; a daughter, Darlene Cook of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger Bill and Cathy Cook of King; his grandchildren, Brandon and Kelly Cook and Maria and Ryan Jessup, all of King; three great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Cook, Harrison Jessup, and Caroline Jessup; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Cook Johnson; and six brothers, Herbert Cook, Howard Cook, Bernie Cook, Carl Cook, Claude Cook, and Richard Cook. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Grant Atkins and the Rev. Roland McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Industries for the Blind, 7730 Northpoint Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27106; North Carolina Eye Bank, 3900 Westpoint Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
