Rev. Charlie Lee Goins

Rev. Charlie Lee Goins, age 94, of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday morning, November 26, 2021, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Rev. Goins was born on September 13, 1927, to the late James Franklin (Jim- Red) Goins, and Sarah Elizabeth McCraw Goins

Charlie was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army, Stationed in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge in 1947 he returned to Mt. Airy where he continued to entertain, sing, and MC for the “Merry Go Round Show” at the Old Pic Theater. He went on to manage the Earl and Pic Theater. During this time he played music with a group called “The Dixie Pals”. After his tour in the army, Charlie returned to school and graduated in 1951 from Franklin High School. On May 14, 1954, God called him into the ministry where he spread the gospel and led souls to the Lord for over 50 years.


On October 8, 1948, he married his soul mate, Arlein Marion Goins. Together they had four children, Therisa Dianne (Bobby) Bowman of Ararat, VA.; Jim (Lynn) Goins of Sherrils Ford, NC; Sarah (Jackie) Houston of Mt. Airy, NC; and Rebecca (Tim) Walsh of Murrells Inlet, SC. Charlie and Arlein were married 56 Years before her passing in 2004.

In addition to his children, he is survived by eight grandchildren; Rev. John (Becky) Bowman, Samantha (Damian) Reid, Rachel (Jamie) Hall, Jimmy Jr. (Emily) Goins, Annie (Jon) Hanson, Ken (Michele) Cooper, Erin (Brad) Farmer, and Tyler Schwab; thirteen great-grandchildren, Levi Bowman, Robyn Baron, Jakobi Bowman, Davyn Reid, Jacob Monsour, Darian Reid, Haylee Farmer, Josiah Goins, Brody Farmer, Jaxson Cooper, Riley Farmer, Nora Goins, and Colton Hanson.

In addition to his wife, Rev. Goins was preceded in death by three brothers, Ross, Cecil, and George Goins; one sister, Ada Goins Lee.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with services conducted by his grandson, Rev. John R. Bowman and Rev. Jay Meadows of First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with Military Honors by VFW Honor Guard post #2019 of Mt. Airy and Post #9436 of Pilot Mountain.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 10:00 AM until time for the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Sarah and Jackie Houston, 259 Chatham Rd., Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
