Rev. Curtis H. Byrd

Rev. Curtis H. Byrd, 88, of Mt. Airy went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 12, 2016. He was born in Wilkes county on May 19, 1928, to the late Jones Harrison and Mary Hessie Adams Byrd. Mr. Byrd retired from Maryland Redi-Mix and was a minister of the gospel pastoring, and filling in for several churches over a span of 60 years. He was also a member of Indian Grove Baptist church since 1990 where he remained faithful as long as his health permitted. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter and son in-law Shirley and Smitty Clement; a son and daughter in-law Ronnie and Jean Byrd, seven grandchildren; Ronnie and Wendy Byrd, Marvin and Renee Byrd, Casey and Carrie Byrd, Buffy Haynes, Chip Swearingen, Tammy and Mark Ensley, Amy and Gary Fleming; 15 great grand-children; Four step great grand-children, and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rev. Byrd was preceded in death by his wife Nonnie Lee Byrd, three sisters Fannie Byrd, Virginia Byrd, and Louise Carter, three brothers, Thomas, Press and Bill Byrd. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday December 15, 2016 at Indian Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dwayne Byrd, Rev. Tommy Floyd, and Rev. Brian Frazier with burial to follow in the Indian Grove Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 at Moody funeral home.
