Rev. Danny Robert Leftwich, Sr

The Rev. Danny Robert Leftwich, Sr., 60, of 1349 Carolina Court, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007, at his home. Mr. Leftwich was born March 18, 1946, in Surry County, to the late Walter Seba Leftwich, Sr. and Hallie Savada Collins Leftwich. Since 1962, Danny organized several gospel music groups, including The Revelations Quartet, The Joyful Heirs, The Gospel Believers, Saved By Grace, and Just Us. The Rev. Leftwich was ordained into the ministry on October 17, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Craig Leftwich of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Brian Beasley, Crystal and Brian Danner, and Tammy and Larry Newman, all of Mount Airy, and Heather and John Hicks of Yadkinville; sixteen grandchildren, Corey Newman, Nathan Peele, Christen Danner, Jamie Negley, Hannah Beasley, Michael Dorsette, Jonathan Negley, Samantha Hicks, Harmony Danner, Kellie Newman, Hayden Beasley, Austin Hicks, Hailey Beasley, Justin Dorsette, Lauren Danner, and Kaley Dorsette; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pernie Sechrist of Cana, VA, Gloria Martin and Barbara and the Rev. Tommy Kingsbury, all of Mount Airy, and Connie and Charles Tolbert of Pilot Mountain; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter Seba Leftwich, Jr. and Linda Leftwich and Dale and Brenda Leftwich, all of Mount Airy; and his mother-in-law, Medie Craig of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Leftwich was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Robert Leftwich, Jr. and John David Leftwich; a granddaughter, Amber Marie Martin; two sisters, Mary Alice Leftwich and Norma Alda Leftwich; and a brother, Harold Dwight Leftwich. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 2:00 PM at First Church of the Brethren. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Barker, the Rev. Garvie Dixon, Jr., the Rev. Wallace Cole, and the Rev. Arlis Thomas. Burial will follow in the Amazing Grace Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
