Rev. Douglas Edward Brinkley age 67, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving Family at his home.  He was born in Surry County on October 13, 1954, to Mary Josephine Joyce Brinkley and the late Chester Madison Brinkley.  Mr. Brinkley was a member and Elder of Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain.  He was very involved in North Carolina Presbyterian Pilgrimage, serving on several weekends, and served as Rector for NCPP 115, where the focus was Philippians 4:13 “ I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”  Mr. Brinkley was past president of the Pilot Mountain Jaycees, past president of South Westfield Ruritan Club, past State President of NCCIX.  He was also President of the Board of Directors of the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Credit Union for several years and was instrumental in its merger with the Winston-Salem City Employees Credit Union.  Mr. Brinkley had a career in Law Enforcement beginning in 1972 with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC and ended in 1996 after serving the citizens of Winston-Salem for Twenty-Four Years.  At the time of his retirement, he was assigned to Chief of Police as his Administrative Sergeant.  After retiring, he worked with the Surry County Schools (Shoals) for several years before answering God’s call to the ministry.  His first call was Francisco Presbyterian Church, and at the time of his death, he was the pastor at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church.  Mr. Brinkley was also a member of Salem Presbyterian’s Commission on Ministry and was a prior Commissioner to the General Assembly of the PCUSA.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debbie Cook Brinkley; a daughter, Ellen Brinkley White; son and daughter-in-law, Joel Cook Brinkley and his wife Annie, the joys of his life, Lillianna Brinkley, Corrina Brinkley, Aurelia White, Aurora White; brother, Jeff Brinkley and his wife Paula; mother, Josephine Brinkley; mother-in-law, Evalina Taylor, sister-in-law, Robin Cook; a brother-in-law, Robert Cook as well as several nieces and nephews.  A service of witness to the resurrection celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with services conducted by Rev. Griff Gatewood, Rev, Neil Routh, and Rev. Jennie Leake Hemrick.  Burial will follow in the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until time for the service at the funeral home and after the committal at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1700, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.  The family would like to send out a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice, Mt. Airy Dialysis Center, and the Heart Transplant Team.
