Rev. Dr. Leonard Phillip Goins

The Rev. Dr. Leonard Phillip Goins, 72, of Mount Airy, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. He was born October 2, 1944, in Forsyth County, the son of the late Leonard Harvey and Ruth Covey Slate Goins. Phillip was a loving Christian husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He earned a doctorate in theology from Clarksville Theological Seminary in Clayton. He pastored a number of Baptist churches, and was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elva Allen Goins of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Brian Mauldin of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Luke Mauldin, Carrie Mauldin, Meredith Mauldin, and Grant Mauldin, all of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas M. and Karen Goins and John W. and Wanda Goins, all of Pilot Mountain; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 17, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Little Mountain Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Watson, the Rev. Darrell Price, and the Rev. Dale Bass officiating. Burial will follow in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Little Mountain Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Piedmont Bible College, 420 South Broad Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the family.
