Rev. Eugene Edward Powers

Rev. Eugene Edward Powers, age 82, of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, June 09, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Rev. Powers was born in Mecklenburg County on December 27, 1934, to Rev. John Wesley “J.W” and Louise Hampton Powers. He was a retired Bishop from Sanford Church of God and was a member of Mount Airy Church of God. Surviving is his devoted wife, Dollie “Ruby” Wyatt Powers; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Janet Powers, Rev. Charles and Cathy Powers; grandchildren and spouses, Amber and Rev. Michael Mooneyham, Lauren and Rev. Daylon Mooneyham, Rev. Bradley and Stephanie Powers, Jodi Powers, Lindsey and Michael Moore, Kara Powers, and Colt Britt; nine great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Glynda and Rev. Ray Whittington; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rev. Powers was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Miller; and by a brother, Rev. Donald Powers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 12, 2017 at Mount Airy Church of God with services conducted by the Rev. Charles Powers, the Rev. Jentzen Franklin, The Administrative Bishop, Dennis Page and the Rev. Bradley Powers. Committal services at Oakdale Cemetery will be held by, the Rev. Daylon Mooneyham and the Rev. Michael Mooneyham. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Mount Airy Church of God. Moody Funeral Home is serving the Powers family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Airy Church of God at 1313 Carter St., P.O. Box 1445, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
