The Rev. Grover Tony Griffin passed away unexpectedly at his home in Burnsville on Friday, November 19, 2010. He was born December 4, 1949, in Surry County, to the late Grover Cleveland "Tobe" and Lois Puckett Griffin. The Rev. Griffin graduated from Mount Airy High School, Appalachian State University, and Duke Divinity School. He was employed by Quality Mills before opening his own textile business in Mount Airy. He served in various area churches, most recently serving as pastor of Windom, Celo, and Martin's Chapel Methodist churches in Burnsville. The Rev. Griffin enjoyed his ministry as well as hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Frances Fox Griffin of Burnsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Emily and David McPeak of Mount Airy; a grandson, Carter Griffin McPeak; a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Dean Marion of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas Ray and Pat Griffin of Asheboro; a stepson and his wife, Gary and Emily Jones of Burnsville; and a stepgrandson, Hunter Jones of Burnsville. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 22, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron, the Rev. Arnetta Beverly, and the Rev. John Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at 2:30 PM at Windom United Methodist Church in Burnsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newdale Charge, c/o Cynthia McIntosh, 1879 Cane River School Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
