Rev. Harvey Junior Bowman, 73, husband of Mrs. Alice Dixon Bowman, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 22, 2009 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Bowman was born in Surry County on January 1, 1936 to the late Dock Aaron and Phoebie Pack Bowman. He was a retired farmer and the Pastor of Free Spirit Gospel Church. He was a dedicated man of God who devoted his life to his family and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mr. Bowman is survived by his loving wife of fifty four years, Mrs. Alice Dixon Bowman of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Steve Melton of Kernersville, Joanne and Tony Holleman of Elkin and Glenda Bowman of Dobson; four grandchildren, Ann Melton, Lynn Wagner (Jason), Brian Holleman and Steven Melton; a great-granddaughter, Raylin Melton; a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Jimmy Eaton of Kernersville; a brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Shirley Bowman of Walkertown. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by two sisters, Madaline and Mary Frances Bowman. His funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Roaring Gap Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Atkins, Rev. James Jones and Rev. Gary Adams with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm at Moody- Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chris Thomas and the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their love and compassionate care during this difficult time.
