Rev. Jack Asbury Casstevens, age 75 of Mt. Airy, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Golden Living Center after a long battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Surry County, March 14, 1936 to the late John and Inez Beck Casstevens. He was a member of Community Baptist Church, was a Baptist Minister for forty-five years and pastored six churches in Surry County and one in Floyd County, VA. He was a farmer, worked several years in the hosiery industry and retired from NC Department of Transportation. He loved to hunt and fish. Surviving is his devoted wife of fifty-four years, Frances McKinnon Casstevens of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Brent Robertson of Mt. Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Tammy Casstevens; Mike and Angie Casstevens and Greg and Lisa Casstevens all of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren, Joseph Casstevens and fiancé, Maria Rogers of Elkin, Mac and Nichole Casstevens, Ricky Casstevens, Tiffany Casstevens, Brandon Casstevens, Cody Nichols and Heather Nichols all of Mt. Airy; a great grandson, Bentley Nichols of Mt. Airy; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Malzie Beasley, Annie Mae and Billy Jack Holder, Alene and Bill Cail all of Mt. Airy and Irene and Dennis Blackburn of Pilot Mountain; eight brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Casstevens, Richard Lamon and Sandra Casstevens, Bill and Billie Casstevens, Delmer and Linda Casstevens, Homer and Shirley Casstevens all of Mt. Airy; Arvil and Jean Casstevens of Kernersville, Graham and Sandra Casstevens of Elkin, Charles and Karen Casstevens of State Road and many, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rev. Casstevens was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Monica Casstevens and a sister, Mozelle Shore. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Community Baptist Church by Rev. Kenneth Jessup, Rev. Larry Stone and Rev. Steve Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Casstevens will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and the staff at Golden Living Center for the wonderful care given to Rev. Casstevens during his illness.
