Rev. Joseph Coats "Joe" Shockley

Rev. Joseph Coats "Joe" Shockley, age 91 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at The Landmark Center in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on May 13, 1920 to the late Robert P. and Minnie Rodgers Shockley. In addition to his parents, Rev. Shockley was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Priddy Shockley; one son, Bobby Shockley; one son-in-law, Dr. Larry D. Hoyle; four brothers, Johnny, Fred, Roger and Major Shockley; and two sisters, Evelyn Gunter and May Ayers. He had been in the ministry for over 30 years, and was a member of Aiken Summit Wesleyan Church.
Rev. Shockley is survived by one daughter, Glenda Hoyle of Pickens, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Dean Hoyle, Reggie Hoyle, Marc Hoyle, Deanna Stanley, Cheryl Rush, Lynn Freeman and Danny Shockley; eight great-grandchildren, Zoé« Stanley, Isaac Stanley, Gavin Stanley, Jackson Hoyle, Jarrett Hoyle, Wyatt Hoyle, Ethan Rush and Nick Rush; and one sister-in-law, Martha Shockley of Stuart.
Funeral services for Rev. Shockley will be held Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Revs. Brian Custer, Claude Dove, Martin Davis and glen Gentry officiating. Burial will follow in Minnie's Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart and one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.
