The Rev. J.T. Blevins, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, June 2, 2011, at his home. He was born June 16, 1934, in Surry County, to the late James Monroe and Elizabeth Brooks Blevins. He was the pastor of Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Kim Blevins; a son, John Thomas Blevins; three sisters; and three brothers. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Day Blevins of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris Blevins of Mount Airy and Aaron and Lynn Blevins of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Tania Blevins, Chris Blevins, Jr., Brenda Blevins, Thomas Blevins, Nichole Blevins, Kimberly Blevins, Crystal and Tim Stanley, and Tim Sechrist; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Blan and Bertie Blevins of Elkin and Oscar and Hazel Blevins of Austin; and all his special friends. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ivan Dameron and the Rev. Craig Key officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Zephyr Baptist Church on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all the love and care given to their husband and father.
