Rev. Marlie Hawks

Rev. Marlie Hawks, age 80, of Winston-Salem, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  Mr. Hawks was born in Carroll County on November 12, 1937, to Eugene and Annie Akers Hawks.  He was a retired minister who pastored several churches in North Carolina and Virginia. He started preaching when he was 17 years old and preached for the next 63 years. One of his favorite public places to preach was on the lawn of the Hillsville courthouse.  He was a very loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  Surviving are his wife, Bertie McMillian Hawks; daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth and Tommy Ayers, and Ruth Hawks; son and daughters-in-law, Sherman and Laurie Hawks, and Perry and Becky Hawks; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie and J. D. Bowman, Bonnie and Claude Gwyn; sisters-in-law, Launia Hawks, Ollie Hawks; brother in-law, Hermit Sechrist. In addition to his parents, Rev. Hawks was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Combs and Gracie Sechrist; brothers, Claucy, Arles, Edgar and Arthur Hawks.  A funeral service will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM with services conducted by Rev. Perry Hawks, Rev. Kenneth Ayers, Rev. Wade Easom, Rev. Riley Puckett, Rev. Charles Carver and Rev. Sherman Hawks.  Burial will follow in Marion Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to Stokes County Hospice, 1570 NC 8 And 89 Hwy N, Danbury, NC 27016.
