Rev. Robert Luther Taylor

Rev. Robert Luther Taylor, age 94 of King, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Rose Tara Plantation in King. Rev. Taylor was born in Surry County on February 1, 1922, to Albert Franklin and Mary Maude Southern Taylor. In devotion to his Lord, he ministered at numerous churches in North Carolina including, Slate Mountain Baptist, Brim’s Grove Baptist, Victory Baptist, South Gate Baptist in Thomasville, Pine Grove Baptist in High Point, Cool Springs Baptist in Gray’s Chapel, Community Baptist in Greensboro, Grape Vine Baptist in Lewisville, Center Grove Baptist in Clemmons, Pitt’s Baptist in Harrisburg, Mill Creek Baptist in Monroe and Waxhaw Baptist in Waxhaw. “He was a true man of God”. Surviving are daughters and a son-in-law, Shelva and Clarence Cockerham; and Brenda Taylor; a son, Bob Taylor; grandchildren, Darshan Hartgrove and husband Clint, Leah Downing and husband Chuck, Kevin Polk, Melissa Boaz, Donna Branham and husband Ike and Debra Geiger and husband Mike; ten great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rev. Taylor was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maude Emaline Gwynn Taylor and by all his siblings. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday February 20, 2016, at Victory Baptist Church at 1074 Midway Road in Statesville by Rev. Jonathan Hartgrove, Rev. Ike Branham and Rev. Mitchell Rash. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to express special thanks, to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Pastor Mitchell Rash and Rose Tara Plantation for the care given to Rev. Taylor.
