The Rev. Romney Samuel Brim, 100, of 1288 Slate Mountain Road, Mount Airy, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening, October 31, 2008. The Rev. Brim was born July 4, 1908, in Surry County, to the late Joseph Samuel and Louetta Cobbler Brim. He was an evangelistic minister for nearly 27 years. Throughout the years, the Rev. Brim sang in several gospel quartets and was an avid hunter. Romney was a lifelong carpenter and farmer and a member of Mount Airy Church of God. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Oleeta Chilton and Kornella and Donald Martin, all of Mount Airy, and Leeronie Easter of Greensboro; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Delbert and Betty Brim, Plato Brim, and Reavis Brim, all of Mount Airy, Gloma "Jay" and Carolyn Brim of Mooresville, and Bronson Brim of Rockingham; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lessie Brim Longest of Siler City. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Brim was preceded in death by his wife of 79 years, Voda Caroline Gammons Brim; a daughter and son-in-law, Vernie and Marvin Watson; two daughters-in-law, Mary June Brim and Bobbie Brim; three sisters, Jessie Bolt, Blanche Taylor, and Nolie Brown; and four brothers, Deward Brim, Calvin Brim, James Brim, and Raymond Brim. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 3, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Harvest Temple Church of God, 312 Newsome Road, King. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Don Whichard, the Rev. Robbie Sizemore, and the Rev. Daniel Salmon, and burial will follow in the Old Westfield Friends Meeting Cemetery in Westfield. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Kornella and Donald Martin, 1416 Slate Mountain Road, Mount Airy. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to several wonderful caregivers, Jessye Gilley, Deborah Joyce, Frankie Venable, and Patty Isaacs, for the love, care, and compassion shown to Romney during his illness. Also, a special thanks is extended to a grandson, Bryan Martin, for the special care and attention shown to his grandfather and the staff of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their kindness during this special time.
