The Rev. Timothy Parks VanHoy, 42, of 3127 Misty Trail, Fancy Gap, VA, entered into the loving arms of our Savior on Friday morning, July 31, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The Rev. VanHoy was born September 26, 1966, in Yadkin County, son of Nancy Smith Shumate and the late Calvin Parks VanHoy. Tim was the executive director for the Greater Mount Airy Area Habitat For Humanity and a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church in Dobson. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Debra Felts VanHoy of the home; a daughter, Taylor VanHoy of the home; his mother, Nancy Smith Shumate of Clemmons; a brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Tina VanHoy of Mount Airy; his stepmother and her husband, Irene and Bill Joe Woodruff of Mount Airy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, W.B. and Maxine Felts of Fancy Gap, VA; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Morgan Towe of Cana, VA, and Vicki and Danny Alderman of Galax, VA; a special grandmother, Belva Sumner of Hillsville, VA; nieces and nephews, Garrett VanHoy, Carley VanHoy, Matthew Alderman, Josh Alderman, and Holly Felts; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. A service to celebrate Tim's life will be held Monday, August 3, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church, with Dr. Bobby Lewis and the Rev. Kermit Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church, and other times at the home of Irene and Bill Joe Woodruff, 1519 West Fairfield Drive, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the Taylor VanHoy Educational Fund, c/o State Employees' Credit Union, 805 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Roger Kerley, Dr. Jason Stopyra and the emergency room staff of Northern Hospital of Surry County, and the cardiac care unit staff of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for their love, care, and compassion shown to Tim during his sickness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the VanHoy family.
