The Rev. Vibert Dickens, 78, of Dobson, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The Rev. Dickens was born April 17, 1931, in Naoma, WV, to the late Pete and Dessie Cooper Dickens. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from the coal mines. The Rev. Dickens ministered in many churches during the last 40 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Violet Spurlock Dickens of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and David Gentry of Elkin and Robin and Kevin Brickell of Siloam; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Priscilla Dickens of Beckley, WV; five grandchildren and a spouse, Terra and Michael Parker of Ararat, Derek Dickens of Beckley WV, Austin Brickell, Ryan Brickell, and Ashley Brickell, all of Siloam; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Parker, Jonathan Parker, Joanna Parker, and Morgan Riley Dickens; a sister, Barbara Peters of Beckley, WV; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Linda Dickens of Naoma, WV, and Denny and Clarie Dickens of Wisconsin. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Dickens was preceded in death by three brothers, Pete "Junior" Dickens, Clyde Dickens, and Roy Dickens. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Ray Hutson, the Rev. Danny Gilifilen, and the Rev. Randy Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the Freedom Gospel Church Cemetery on Old Rockford Road in Dobson. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
